TOffeeAM wins a grant to revolutionize Heat Exchanger Design
TOffeeAM, a company developing state-of-the-art generative design software for engineering components, and Imperial College London have partnered to win an InnovateUK grant to undertake an ambitious project titled “Multiscale Optimization Framework for the Next Generation of Heat Exchangers.”
Starting in September 2023, this 14-month project aims to revolutionize cold plate design by leveraging the potential of multi-scale methods, promising unprecedented improvements in performance with a simplified design approach for engineers.
At the heart of the project is a radical innovation: an alternative design framework for cold plates, unlocking a new era of thermal efficiency. The project will leverage cutting-edge multi-scale methods pioneered by researchers in the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College London. The project aims to give engineers the ability to produce designs that surpass conventional “serpentine” solutions currently used industrially offering superior heat transfer and requiring less pumping energy to operate.
The projected market size for heat exchangers is set to reach USD 26.26 billion by 2030, with many industries committing to reach the Net-Zero Target by exploiting advanced designs and materials. The project’s adoption will not only result in higher-performance heat exchangers but will also help reduce CO2 emissions, contributing to a greener future. Additionally, by minimizing computational and experimental waste, the project supports a more sustainable approach for the designs of the future.
